Awwa Brother Street Soccer Tournament 2010

Khidir's team came closest to qualifying for the semi-final.
They lost their playoff game by penalties.
What I like about this team is that they have matured over the months.
The extra playoff games were unscheduled and mentally they were not ready.
It didn't matter and they kept going.
They were a little bit disappointed with the exit but not sour over the defeat.
It was this gracious attitude in the face of defeat that made HKSS a well-respected team.
May HKSS have better luck for the next tournament.
Syharain had improved by leaps and bounds for the whole year.
He is now more confident of himself.
Haziq and Marzuqi gave everything.
They had good game throughout the tournament.
They may have to improve on keeping the ball better.
Syhrain had a few good games in the tournament.
Unfortunately he conceded 4 goals in the quarter-final game.
Marzuqi suffered a heavy blow to the face during the game.
He was strong enough to recover and continue to play.
Raihan marking his opponent closely.
Hairyl had a good game as a keeper for the first game.
He made many saves and denied his opponents on many occasions.
Unfortunately he made 2 uncharacteristic silly errors
and his team did not progress after 2 games.
Haiqal and Jie Sheng going for the double team.
Khairi sneaking in for another goal.
Khairi successfully converting the indirect free kick under pressure.
Haiqal successfully denying an opponent's attack.
Muzakir bringing the ball away from danger.
He had Raihan in support.
Jie Sheng missed his penalty under pressure.
He needs more practice.
Danial's penalty was saved. Unlucky.
Marzuqi marking the opponent closely.
Another quick improvised attacking move from Haziq and Marzuqi.
Haziq finishing from a tight angle.
Haziq knocking the ball forward to Marzuqi to attack.
Iqram finishing off another flowing movement.
Iqram and Idil double team to win back the ball.
Idil taking up a defensive position in front of Wen Zong.
Khidir & Wen Zong preparing for the first game.
Muzakir and Raihan.
HKSS c boys looking confident for the first match.Raihan is ready for action.

40th National Colours Award @ NYP

HKSS YOG boys with Mrs Tan & Mr Ng.
The boys didn't stay around NYP very long to mingle or take photos.
They had to attend a dinner with other members of the YOG Soccer team
at 5-star hotel Shangri-La.
HKSS principal Mrs Tan was there to share the YOG boys' moment of glory.
She's proud of our boys' achievement and supports them in whichever way she could.
Ammirul returning to his seat after receiving the awards on behalf of the school on stage.
HKSS YOG boys at the popular spot for photo taking after the ceremony ended.
HKSS shocked many other schools to receive an award for wrestling.
Our former principal Mrs Mary Bay was one of them.
Hamzah is camera shy.
He's getting used to it after the YOG.
The wait for the ceremony to start is going to be long.
We took some photos to ease the boredom.
HKSS YOG boys with friends from Greenview Sec & Ang Mo Kio Sec.
HKSS YOG boys with Syazwan(Greenview Sec) & Jeffery Lightoot(Victoria School).
Everyone look so smart.

Ariff on the comeback trail

The New Paper 16 Aug 2010

Everyone deserves a second chance.
Our former HKSS player is in the news, this time for a very good reason.
He's trying to make a comeback and play competitive football again.
This programme with Nike offers Ariff a chance to train in England for 1 year, all expenses paid.
Ironically, National players cannot be included for this programme.

He is one of the 10 players being shortlisted for this programme.
He's the youngest player on the list.
Good luck Ariff.
Show the rest just how good you are.

FIFA ranking

http://www.fifa.com/mensyoutholympic/statistics/players/topgoals.html

According to the official FIFA statistics ,
Ammirul is the 4th top scorer (Adidas golden shoe) for the YOG Football tournament (3 goals in 4 games).
He was actually joint 3rd top scorer together with his teammate Muhaimin Suhaimi.
He was pushed into 4th place as he scored one goal from penalty while Muhaimin scored all 3 goals from open play.

When was the last time a Singaporean footballer top scored in a FIFA tournament ??

(Quoted from the official FIFA website)
A rare chance for hosts
Singapore feature in the boy’s tournament in what is the hosts first appearance in a FIFA Competition. A regional power who have won the ASEAN Football Confederation Championship (previously known as the Tiger Cup) on three occasions, Singapore are still looking to make their first real mark. The Youth Olympic Football Tournament offers the home team with a golden opportunity to showcase their progress in front of a global audience.

With this achievement Ammirul puts Singapore and HKSS on the world map.
His record will be there for a while until another Singaporean scores more goals at his age (15) in a FIFA tournament.
Possible but unlikely.
His amazing achievements will perhaps spur more Singaporean footballers to dream big !!
Maybe Singapore can qualify for the Youth World Cup properly in the near future.
